Jake Reeves and Mason Pike participated in the Georgia All-State Band in Savannah, February 28-March 2. The most advanced musicians in our state gather on these dates to rehearse music they have never seen with students they have never played alongside.  After only four rehearsals, they perform a program of very advanced band literature at a very high level of achievement. Members of All-State Band were selected from the thousands of bandstudents who auditioned from across the state.  Reeves, who is a veteran three-year member of the prestigious group of musicians, commented, “"It’s sad that this was my last year of All-State, but it will be an experience I carry with me forever." Impressively, Jake held first chair for the trombone section. This was sophomore Mason Pike’s first opportunity to attend.  "It was an experience I couldn’t have gotten anywhere else. It taught me how to play in a professional orchestra,"  commented Pike, who sat third chair in the baritone section of the band.   Trion band director Andy Cox joined the two for the weekend concert and said, "I couldn't be prouder of how these students represented our school and community in the name of music.  They worked so very hard to achieve this great honor!"

The Trion High Baseball Team takes on the War Eagles of Jenkins County in their Elite Eight matchup today. The Bulldogs are hoping to keep their playoff run going. The first game starts at 4:00 PM and the second game to follow. If neither team wins both games, a tiebreaker "if game" will be played tomorrow. The boys have had an exceptional season, with less than 5 losses and hope to continue advancing in playoffs. Athletic director Justin Brown commented, "We are excited our boys have made it this far and it would be awesome if they could make their way to the final two." The last state win for our baseball team was in 1983 under coach J.W. Greenwood, with greats such as Kenny Gilreath and Stacy Searels, and our own Superintendent Phil Williams leading the team. Coaches Jason Lanham, Steve Gladney, Josh Groce, and Jordan Day have worked very hard all season and are very proud of their boys.
